Delhiites earn high, spend the most: Survey

Delhiites are the country’s third richest but take the lead in spending, according to a government survey. HT reports.

Delhiites are the country’s third richest but take the lead in spending, according to a government survey.

Delhi’s monthly per capita expenditure between July 2009 and June 2010 was Rs 2,811, said the report released Thursday. Himachal Pradesh was next, followed by Haryana.

While 36% of the money was spent on food and beverages, education of children was the second biggest expense (9.4%) and commuting (8.65%) the third.

Delhi’s per capita income was Rs 1,16,886, only behind Goa and Chandigarh. The national average was Rs 46,492.
