The boy, Gaurav Kumar, was a student of a government school and the eldest among three brothers and a sister.

The police said that they did not recover any suicide note. "Kumar had not attended school for the last one month. It seems he was not happy with his performance which is why he fell into depression," said a senior police officer.

The police said that he went inside the room to study and hung himself from the ceiling fan. His father Bachchoo Lal found him and called the police. Kumar was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Woman kills self: In a similar incident in the same area, a 22-year-old woman hung herself after being allegedly harassed for dowry on Wednesday night.

The woman, Meenu, got married to Ravi Prakash, who works with a private firm, a year back. "Meenu was found by her brother-in-law. She was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her brought dead," said the police.

Meenu's family alleged her husband forced her to commit suicide. They alleged he used to demand dowry and beat her up. The police said an inquiry had been initiated.
