Discount on bills for those who save power
The Delhi government has announced a discount of Rs 200 on monthly bills of people who restrict their monthly power consumption to 150/200 units. The government will have to shell out Rs 225 crore per year on the subsidy, Delhi Power Minister A.K. Walia said on Thursday.
Officials reported that 14.26 lakh out of 32 lakh consumers availed subsidised electricity on consumption up to 200 units per month during peak months of May and June. It is evident that 45 per cent consumers were able to restrict their consumption, which is a big boost to power conservation.
“Out of 3 lakh out of 9 lakh customers of NDPL, 6 lakh out of 13 lakh customers of BRPL, and 5.26 lakh out of 9.75 lakh customers of BYPL availed this opportunity offered by the city government,” he said.
Meanwhile, power cuts were reported across the city. Okhla, Janakpuri and East of Kailash, and adjoining areas faced outages ranging between 40 minutes to an hour. The peak demand reached 3720 MW, one of season’s highest.
