Domestic flyers can now buy liquor at T3

The Delhi government on Monday decided to make amendments in the Delhi Excise Rule, 2010, and allow setting up of liquor vends at the arrival lounge of T3.

There is some good news for domestic flyers who worship Bacchus. Soon, they will be able to buy liquor at Terminal 3 (T3) of Indira Gandhi International Airport just like their international counterparts. However, the domestic flyers will have to pay duty for this.

The Delhi government on Monday decided to make amendments in the Delhi Excise Rule, 2010, and allow setting up of liquor vends at the arrival lounge of T3. Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit said, “We have decided to make amendments in Delhi Excise Rule, 2010. However, the liquor vend at domestic lounge will not be duty free like international arrival lounge.”

Earlier, this license used to be issued for retail vends and Indian liquor and foreign liquor in shopping malls only. “The decision would help government earn additional revenue considering the location of the proposed vends and the passenger traffic at the airport,” said an Excise department official.

“This move would not just provide passengers with the widest range of liquors but will also give them an opportunity to buy liquor even after they have crossed the immigration and customs area,” said a DIAL spokesperson.
