Double murder accused held after gunbattle

A gunbattle broke out between a criminal and police in Outer Delhi on Wednesday morning following which an accused in a double murder case was arrested. The gunbattle took place in Sector 25 of Rohini, a senior police official said.

A man wanted in a double murder case was arrested from an Outer Delhi locality after a gunbattle when he came there to allegedly commit another murder, a senior police official said.

Sandeep Chitania was caught from Sector 25 of Rohini on Wednesday morning after the gunbattle, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Atul Katiyar told PTI.

"We had information that Chitania will be coming to the locality to commit a murder. We laid a trap and when we tried to apprehend him, he opened fire which was retaliated by police party," he said.

Chitania allegedly shot dead two people in Aman Vihar last year during a programme.

He was also allegedly involved in five to six attempts to murder cases.
