“This special drive will go on till the end of this month to cover the festive season. It is our aim to make public transport safer for the public. This is to ensure that drivers stop their buses at the right stops, don’t drive with the bus doors open and don’t speed,” said Vijay Kumar Dev, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, DTC. The drive was launched after many commuters complained about the drivers’ irregularities.

The DTC has also been using the GPS system to monitor the speed limit observed by drivers. “Earlier we recorded 147 cases of speeding. Now with the help of the GPS system, the number of cases has come down to nine," added Dev.

The corporation also plans to introduce electronic ticketing and CCTV cameras inside the buses to monitor money leakage and check pickpocketing or eve teasing inside buses.
