DTC special drive: 113 drivers and conductors fined for not wearing uniforms

On day one, the DTC teams checked 958 buses and fined 113 drivers and conductors for not wearing uniforms, 66 for poor condition of buses, 14 conductors for lack of alertness, 29 for discrepancy in display boards and five for not stopping the bus at the designated spot.

Interestingly, the team did not find even a single case of over-speeding and rash driving, smoking by the crew members or bunching of buses. The daily commuters, however, said most DTC bus drivers now drive beyond the speed of 40 km/hr and bunching of buses (at least two buses on the same route moving together) is a common sight.

The special DTC drive will continue for a fortnight. DTC officials said the drive has been launched, following the complaints of poor behaviour of bus crew, rash driving, over speeding, poor maintenance of buses and non-functioning of air-conditioning, among others.

The special DTC squads comprising senior officers such as regional managers would check buses and the crew on 28 different parameters every day for two hours in the morning and two in the evening.
