DU admissions: English, BA Prog cutoffs may rise as compared to 2015

“English has always been one of the most coveted subjects at Delhi University. It is always among the subjects with highest cutoffs,” said Miranda House principal Pratibha Jolly.

The cutoff for the subject had peaked to 98.25% in the first list in 2015 and the lowest cutoff in the first list was at 87% at Satyawati Evening College. Even in the 10th list, when seats were vacant at Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR), the cutoff remained as high as 97.75%.

This year after English (Hons), BA Programme and Political Science (Hons) has received the second and third most applications. Comparatively, these courses usually have a wide range of difference between the highest and the lowest marks in the first cutoff list. For instance, last year, the highest cutoff for Political Science (Hons) was 98% and the lowest was 80% at PGDAV College.

“It is pretty surprising that Political Science has more applications than BCom and BCom (Hons). This time, the subject may see an increase in the cutoff compared to last year,” said a political science teacher of a north campus college.

Last year, BCom and BCom (Hons) had received the second and third most applications. For instance, for BCom (Hons) the highest cutoff was at 98% in the first cutoff list and the lowest in the first cutoff was 92% at an off campus college. By the fifth cutoff, the seats in almost all colleges had been filled.

“For subjects with high number of applications, the first cutoff will be high. But after the first cutoff, it becomes clearer about what is the trend and the second cutoff would be much realistic,” said Ram Lal Anand College principal Vijay K Sharma.
