A day after his detention and subsequent release, Sunil Mandiwal, an assistant professor with Dayal Singh College, presented himself at Pushp Vihar Police Station and signed a proforma containing the list of books seized from his residence.

Sources said some officials of central intelligence agencies also questioned him to ascertain whether he had any links with ultra-leftists.

"We have not pressed any charges against him," a senior police official said.

Mandiwal was yesterday detained by a team of Delhi Police and Andhra Pradesh Police and questioned for two hours before being released.

Asked why he was under police scanner, Mandiwal yesterday said it appeared that it was a "case of confusion".

"AP Police had earlier arrested a Maoist leader Krishna Rao. I don't know him but I know a person in Delhi whose name is Krishna Rao, whose (written) materials I have collected. Police thought it was the same person," he said.

"I have a collection of books on Marxist and Maoist literature. They were suspecting that I have Maoist links. I have no links with them and I told that to police also," the DU professor said.
