CPM leaders Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury and CPI leaders A.B. Bardhan and D. Raja got identical copies of the letter in flawed English, Left sources said. Raja confirmed receiving the threat.

“It was sent to the PMO’s email address,” Raja told Hindustan Times. He said the mail was written by someone claiming to be Vinay Kateri from Mumbai.

The email spoke about “eliminating” the leaders. “People are fed up with you. Enough is enough,” it said.

“Do not hold this country for ransom. Do not behave like terrorists,” the letter said. It added that Communists are “suffering from blood cancer, namely anti-American virus.”

The sender added that he was also sending a copy to the Congress office.
