The treatment plant has been set up by an NGO called Social Awareness Newer Alternatives (SANA).

Dikshit said that the water treatment plant will produce over 5,000 litres of drinking water daily by using solar powered panels. The technology will be able to convert brackish, contaminated water into water that's fit for consumption.

Over 750 school children from economically backward areas, living in the vicinity, will be given five litres of clean portable water daily for each family member.
