The professor allegedly married a teenage girl and kept his first marriage intact. Kunal (name changed) got married to Sonia (name changed) in 1985.

On June 7, 2000, Sonia came to know about Kunal’s second marriage to Kanika (name changed) who was 18 years old at the time of the marriage.

Sonia further got to know that Kunal allegedly has a son from his second marriage. She collected evidence of her husband’s second marriage and medical records of the hospital confirming the birth of the son.

Metropolitan Magistrate Veena Rani noted that Kunal’s act of alleged second marriage reflected cruelty and harassment committed by him while keeping his first marriage intact.

The judge observed that there was strong evidence to establish that the complainant was so mentally or physically tortured, that she never uttered a word against her husband’s second marriage.

Sonia had also alleged that months before his second marriage, Kunal entangled her in a home loan of Rs 7.9 lakh from HDFC bank.
