‘Farmhouse owner, dogs were killed’

A senior police officer said they are suspecting that a property dispute might have led to the killings, reports Vijaita Singh.

Two days after a 66-year-old man, his helper and nine dogs were found dead at a farmhouse in Mehrauli, the police registered a case of murder against unknown people on Sunday. The case has been transferred to the crime branch.

A senior police officer said they are suspecting that a property dispute might have led to the killings.

Vishwant Kumar, an NGO owner and the founder of the famous Modern Bazaar in Vasant Vihar, his helper Shivrath, 27, and nine dogs were found dead at a farmhouse in Satbari area in Mehrauli on Friday morning. The police said although they have not received the postmortem report, the cause of death seemed to be poisoning. More than 12 people have been questioned in the case including some family members.

The police know that Kumar left home every evening at around 6 p.m. and returned around 11 p.m. On his way home, he used to buy food for himself from a takeaway. The food for the dogs were prepared in the farmhouse. “We are trying to find out where and whom did Kumar meet during this time,” said a senior police officer. “Kumar had sold off his property but had not given the share to his wife and children. He was not living with them,” he added.
