At present, for the entry level Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) course that qualifies aspirants to start training in UK colleges, surgeons already holding MS and DNB degrees from India have to pass a two-part examination.

If the new rule comes into effect, then India will be the first country in the world where surgeons will not have to take Part A of the examination.

A four-member team of the council of Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) of England visited New Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and Army Hospital Research and Referral on Tuesday to assess the surgical and teaching expertise and the other required facilities for training.

Making an announcement, the president of the RCS said he was satisfied with the quality of exams in India. “ We are thinking of waving one part of the entrance examination for the Indian surgeons coming to train in the UK,” he added.
