First in 10 yrs: New DU VC to live in official home

The official residence of the Delhi University Vice Chancellor (VC) in the North Campus of the University is located right behind the Metro station. And despite that, nobody really knows what it is. The sprawling bungalow has been lying vacant for more than 10 years now.

Almost all students pass by it daily without giving it a second glance. Ask anyone where the Vice Chancellor's residence is and all you get are blank stares. Some, after much deliberation, direct you toward what was formerly the Vice Regal Lodge and is today the Vice Chancellors office. And there are those who "don't think the VC's residence is here".
"You should go to the South Campus. Maybe its there," says Ishita Sood, 22, a post graduate student who has been studying in the North Campus for the last four years.
But this will soon change as the three-acre residence will soon see an occupant. The current VC Dinesh Singh, appointed in October last year, plans to move into the official residence soon.
Deepak Nayyar, who was the VC from 2000 to 2005, chose to stay at his home in Friends Colony. So did Deepak Pental, who was the VC between 2005 and 2010. "The whole of my research as well as my laboratory are in the South Campus and I did not want to shift base. Also the house was very big for my wife and me," he says.
