After devising a comprehensive plan to rein in erring autorickshaw drivers in the district, Ghaziabad administration officials have now issued strict orders to schools to adhere to the transport norms issued in this context.

District administration officials met representatives from various Ghaziabad schools and issued strict instruction to follow the guidelines or face action from November 1.
“We plan to rein in the erring school transport to ensure safety and security for the children. A number of parents have approached us in view of violations by the school authorities,” City Magistrate, Umesh Mishra told Hindustan Times.
Although, some schools are following the norms strictly, but a number of them are still non-compliant even after instructions issued to them earlier. The schools are supposed to follow the norms as per the Delhi pattern, said a senior administration official.
“These norms would also help to ease out the traffic violations and congestion in the city area,” the officials said.
As per the RTO officials over 250 buses are registered with them and several hundred other private vehicles are also employed by various schools. “In the past couple of days we seized over 40 such vehicles,” said Additonal RTO, Kamal Gupta.
Further, the administration has issued instruction to schools to get their schools buses painted yellow, allow for the provision of speed-governors, only allow a limited number of seating capacity as against overloading, teachers should accompany the school vehicle and those running on LPG gas cylinders should immediately be removed as they pose a major safety threat.
An estimated number of over 700 vehicles are used by schools in Ghaziabad. The condition in the NCR suburb is delicate as even the three-wheeler autos and rickshaws are used to pick and drop school children. These are flouting the norms openly.
