Fresh case slapped against Home ministry official
Delhi Police on Friday registered a case of destruction of evidence against him for destroying three mobile phones that he used in striking a deal with middlemen for favouring certain commercial firms.

In another development, Sanjeev Arora, a top official with a telecommunications firm who tipped off Singh about his phones being intercepted, will be made a witness in the case.
"It will be on Arora's testimony that we would build a case against Singh," said a senior police officer.
Singh had stopped using the three mobile phones after November 16 since Arora told him about the calls being monitored.
"We added Section 201 IPC (destruction of evidence) after it was learnt that he deliberately destroyed the mobile phones," said the officer.
Posted with internal security at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Singh is suspected of leaking information to a major industrial group, police said.
Home Secretary G.K. Pillai had given clearance to security agencies to tap Singh's phones more than a month ago following inputs that the latter's conduct was not above board. A sting operation was conducted at a five star hotel to establish the fact that Singh's role was dubious.
"The sting operation, which proved to be the final nail in the coffin, had been carried out by sleuths from the Intelligence Bureau (IB). The officers were posing as corporate middlemen," said a senior police officer.
The officers approached Singh through his West Bengal based businessman friend Vineet Kumar, who was also arrested in the case.
"The sleuths had arranged a mock deal in exchange for some money. A team of the Delhi Police Special Cell and
intelligence agencies was standing by outside the hotel room and moved in to nab him when Ravi Inder Singh produced a document that had been demanded by our officers posing as corporate middlemen and their associates," the officer said.
Both Singh and Kumar are presently in the special cell's custody till November 30.
