The bookings have been stopped at stations like New Delhi, Nizamuddin, Old Delhi, Patel Nagar, Anand Vihar, Faridabad, Rohtak, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut and Panipat in the National Capital Region.

"All parcel booking - inward and outward - will remain suspended till the end of the Games," said a senior Northern Railway official.

"Since no truck is allowed to enter the city due to the Games and its movement restricted, we decided to suspend the parcel booking. Otherwise the goods will pile up at stations," he said.

However, the decision is likely to affect the supply of essential commodities including fruits and vegetables in the market.
