With the arrest of one notorious accused, the south district police have busted a gang of snatchers who allegedly committed the crime after gaining the confidence of their victims by showing forged identity cards of Delhi Police.

The accused used to tell their victims that incidents of snatching were on the rise, and when the victim put all the valuables in their bag, they snatched it away.

The police have arrested Yunus Shah Pur Jafari (36), a resident of Atali Road, Mumbai. With the arrest of Jafari, six cases of snatching have been solved and four gold bangles and one gold chain with pendant have been recovered, the police said.

The interrogation also revealed that Yunus was the alleged mastermind of the gang. The gang has been committing such crimes not only in various parts of the city but also in other cities across the country, especially in the state of Rajasthan.

The police have also arrested Amit Kumar (23), who has been previously arrested by the RK Puram police in the year 2009 for his involvement in a robbery case and remained in jail for a period of four months.
