Train passengers will now have to shell out extra money for meals.

According to the partial increase in catering tariffs brought about by the Railways last week, non-vegetarian meals will now cost Rs. 50 per person (priced Rs. 35 earlier), while vegetarian meals will cost Rs. 45, as against the earlier price of Rs. 30.

Circular of December 21 also announced the following hikes: Rs. 25 for a vegetarian breakfast, as against the earlier rate of Rs. 17, and the upward revision of non-vegetarian breakfast from Rs. 20 to Rs. 30.

The rate of the ‘janata meal’ has been revised from Rs. 10 to Rs. 15, while tea and coffee will now cost Rs. 3 and Rs. 7 (earlier priced at Rs. 3 and Rs. 5 respectively).
