Police said the girl had suffered from multiple fractures.

The incident was reported on Sunday around 5.30 a.m. when Ishta Deb was found dead on the floor outside the staff quarters allotted to her father. Her father S.K. Deb is employed as an assistant professor in the civil engineering department at the institute.

Police said they received a call from AIIMS Trauma Centre on Sunday about a girl who has been brought with injury marks.

“She was declared brought dead at the hospital. A postmortem was conducted and we are waiting for the final report,” said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity.

A neighbour who was going for a morning walk reportedly informed the family.

“We are through with the postmortem, if any additional facts come to light, we will definitely look into it,” said HGS Dhaliwal, DCP (south).
