Girls better focused: CBSE head

“It is because girls are better focused and dedicated towards their studies at this crucial juncture of their academic careers. You need to apply yourself and girls seem to be doing that more,” opined Ashok Ganguly, chairman CBSE.

Girls have scored an overall pass percentage of 85.41 per cent this year, against 77.59 per cent by boys. Although this is only a marginal increase over last year’s pass percentages for boys and girls, the gulf between the two has remained almost consistent. In 2007, 85.02 per cent girls passed, as opposed to 77.37 per cent boys.

The trend is replicated in the results for the Delhi region where girls have done well in keeping with the national pattern.

In Delhi, 86.93 per cent girls have passed the exams, while the corresponding figure for boys is 80.65 per cent. While girls have shown a marginal improvement over last year’s results, boys have managed to improve their score from 78.28 per cent.
