Google India has put all the shops and businesses of the area on the Internet by building websites for the market's small and medium businesses.

The company went to each shop in the area and offered them free domains, said Rajan Anandan, vice-president and managing director, sales and operations, Google India. "The company built over 2,500 free websites," Anandan said.

The company has also created a website, www.chandnichowknowonline.in, that provides a directory of all businesses in Chandni Chowk that now have websites.

"I am happy to note that due to initiatives such as these small and medium businesses are embracing the internet," said Kapil Sibal, the communications and IT minister.
