Earlier, the SDM had issued notices to 55 old buildings, stating that they were dangerous and have asked the police to take action against them.

But according to the councillors, no action has been taken against the builders who have been constructing flats illegally. “Why has the government not taken any action against them?” questioned Mahmood Zia, a councillor from Bazar Sita Ram.

The issue also came up in the MCD’s standing committee meeting on Friday. “A total of 55 buildings, mainly in Jama Masjid, Seeta Ram Bazar and nearby areas, had been served notices and now the police are harassing them. The notices should be revoked soon,” Zia said. htc
