Govt pays Rs. 10,000 for medical negligence

Acting on the direction of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the Delhi government has paid a relief of Rs. 10,000 to a woman, a victim of medical negligence in 2009.

“The Delhi government has paid the amount to her and submitted a proof of payment to the commission,” said a release.

The NHRC said it was found the patient was deprived of treatment at the government-run DDU Hospital, violating her human rights, for which the Delhi government was responsible.

“The complainant had alleged that a doctor on duty refused to admit her in the emergency ward of the hospital despite recommendation by its medical superintendent. She had to spend more than Rs. 3,000 at a private hospital” said the release.
