Govt speeding up process for regular PS buildings in Delhi

Out of the 148 police stations in the national capital, only 88 have regular buildings while the remaining ones are functioning either in police post buildings, temporary structures or rented accommodations.

Land has already been allotted to 26 out of 60 police stations and efforts are on to complete construction of all these buildings by 2014, a senior police official said.

"This is an ongoing scheme. The process for getting approval from Cabinet Committee for Economic Affairs (CCEA) has been initiated for the remaining ones.

"Under the instructions of Finance Ministry, the scheme was appraised by the Expenditure and Finance Committee on May 27 this year," the official said.

With all police stations getting own building, the official said, it would fulfill the operational requirements of the force. "A regular building is needed for normal functioning. In rented accommodation, the facilities we need may not be available."
