A meeting of the transport department regarding this issue was held on Friday.

"A lot of suggestions were received on whether to charge parking fee every three hours or every hour. As per the Supreme Court directions, if any steps are taken to increase parking charges, public opinion has to be sought first. We will be coming up with a proposal and once it is cleared, a public notice will be issued in this regard," said a senior Delhi government official.

The official said once the public notice has been issued, the government will ask the civic agencies to increase parking rates.

The Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee has been asking the civic agencies to increase parking rates in the city but nothing concrete has been done so far.

The committee had sent its recommendations to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to hike parking rates by 50%.
