Hiring a guard to man your house is passé. The crunch for parking space in residential areas has intensified to such a level that residents have started hiring security guards to man their parking lots.

Residents of posh colonies such as Greater Kailash I and II, Defence Colony, New Friends Colony, Jor Bagh, among others, are paying between Rs 4,000 and Rs 6,000 to secure their parking lots.

"After spending a long day at work, I don't have the energy to enter into arguments or fight over such a trivial issue,” Kalra says. “Fights over parking lots have become commonplace in residential areas. I don't see much point is wasting my time securing my parking lot so I hired a guard.”

The job of the guard is to sit outside the parking lot and make sure no one else uses it, he says. The guard ensures no one but Kalra gets to park his car at the spot.
