The Delhi Police have now decided to conduct a DNA test on the body, which was found in a charred condition inside Kamal Nursery in Khan Market area late Tuesday night.

Investigators saw some hope when they came to know that a minor boy, who lived with his parents at the NDMC staff quarters in Tughlaq Road area, was missing since April 10.

The boy’s father Suresh, who works as a sweeper at a cultural centre in Lodhi Colony, had lodged a missing complaint on April 11 at the Tughlaq Road police station.

“Four members of the boy’s family, including his parents, saw the body and claimed it was not of their missing son, though they did not sound very sure. The boy left his house after he was reprimanded by his father Suresh for not quitting his smoking habit,” said an investigating officer.

Asha, the boy’s mother, said her son had left the house saying he was going to meet his friends. “He did not turn up since then and my husband lodged a missing complaint the next day. Today (Wednesday), some policemen came to our house and asked us to identify a headless and charred body. But it was not of my son,” said Asha. She said her son could not be murdered as he had no enemy.

Joint commissioner of police (central range) Taj Hasan said they were trying other options available with them for identifying the body.

“It is a case of murder and the victim was dumped by his killer(s) after being murdered. Prime facie it seems the killers wanted to hide the identity of the victim and that was why they set the body on fire when foul smell started emanating. Our teams are working hard to solve the case,” said Hasan.

Investigators have picked up four friends of the missing boy who were in touch with him, hoping they could provide some leads. “The four were questioned earlier as well and at that time they had claimed that he was in Haridwar,” said the investigating officer.
