Human rights body to probe Batla house encounter

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has agreed to conduct a probe into the controversial Batla House encounter.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has agreed to conduct a probe into the controversial Batla House encounter.

Two alleged members of terror outfit Indian Mujahideen and Delhi Police inspector M C Sharma were killed in the encounter on September 19 last year the locality, in the aftermath of the serial blasts in the Capital.

The Commission on Wednesday submitted in Delhi High Court that it would investigate the episode even though the government is reluctant to conduct a magisterial probe.

The court admitted the plea of the Commission and said that it would pass an appropriate order on Thursday.

The government also did not object to the NHRC inquiry, saying, “We don’t have any difficulty.”
