Home minister P Chidambaram, in his meeting with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Monday, said he had made several attempts to make the telecom ministry under A Raja take the auction route for 2G spectrum allocation, top government sources said.

Documents available with HT show that the finance ministry had at that time made several suggestions and given written advice to the telecom ministry to auction the spectrum and hike the price at which the spectrum was being allocated.

Sources said that these suggestions were turned down by Raja’s ministry every time.
