I will consider Dawood's extradition if elected: Bhutto

As she prepares to return home, former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has promised to consider extradition of international terrorist Dawood Ibrahim to India if she is elected to power.

Observing that the militants "nurtured" by Pakistan during the Afghan war had returned to "haunt", she underlined that she did not want her country to be known for harbouring criminals from across the world.

"We will certainly look into the request by the Indian government," she told Karan Thapar's 'India Tonight' programme on CNN-IBN when asked whether she would grant the extradition of Dawood if she is elected to power.

"If he is living in Karachi, it is very wrong ... I do not want Pakistan should get a bad name and be seen as a country that harbours criminals from all parts of the world, including India," said the self-exiled Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) who will announce on Friday the date of her return.

Dawood, prime accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, is believed to be living in Karachi and India is pressing Pakistan to extradite him.

Though India has provided his location to Pakistan, the latter has been claiming that Dawood is not in that country.

The US intelligence also believes Dawood is in Pakistan and has declared him as an 'international terrorist' because of his linkages with terror groups.
