"This gives India a fresh opportunity to persuade and pressurise Sri Lankan authorities to go for credible action in investigating the war crimes and create conditions for a political solution to the Tamil problem," party national secretary D Raja said.

Instead of supporting the US-sponsored resolution, India should have moved a resolution on its own, he said.

Raja said the resolution was "a warning" for Sri Lankan government and it should understand the concerns of the international community.

"Colombo is under international scrutiny. The global community is watching what Sri Lankan government is going to do in the coming days," he said.
