The taste of all Punjabi cuisines got tastier with the steps of bhangra dance and the tune of traditional drums offered by many clubs and restaurants in the city till late Wednesday, setting the mood for the Baisakhi celebrations on Thursday.

The festival of harvest, which also marks the beginning of a new year according to Sikh calendar, is celebrated across the country with much fervour and enthusiasm.

In keeping with the punjabi philosophy of ‘eat, pray and love’, many clubs in Gurgaon phase 3 and 4 organised punjabi buffet while Gurudwaras have organised special prayers for the devotees. Major restaurants like Pind Balluchi and others are also distributing sweets to the customers and making them shake a leg to the tune of traditional drum beats.

The dance troupe Punjabiyan da tashan enthralled the enthusiasts with their familiar bhangra and gidda steps at various clubs on Wednesday evening, adding flavour to their Punjabi foods such as pathankothi seekh kebabs, kalmi hoshiarpuri and Amritsari fish.

All gurudwaras in the city are celebrating the festival on a grand scale. Prayers start at 9 am with holy hymns being sung and langar (mass meal) being served throughout the day.

Many families stayed at gurudwaras on Wednesday night making arrangements for the celebrations.

Working professionals, who can't get a day off, make it a point to go to gurdwara in the morning with their family before going to work. After the morning prayers, the scene shifts to celebrations in the clubs and restaurants where lavish foods are relished.
