“The accused, Janardan Kumar, a former student of JNU, had developed intimate relations with a fellow female student and subsequently recorded an obscene video clipping, in which both had participated in a sexual act. We received a formal complaint regarding the distribution of the said clip on February 12,” said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south).

According to the police, Kumar circulated the said clipping in the JNU campus for revenge after falling out with his girlfriend.

The matter was brought to the notice of the local police following an internal inquiry by JNU authorities that culminated in the expulsion of Kumar, another student identified as Balbir, and the suspension of one more student.
