"The JNU administration is taking advantage of the delayed elections and the crisis in the JNUSU institution, to push through their agenda of fee hikes and commercialisation," a students union's press release alleged.

It also accused the university administration of destroying ecologically sensitive areas within the campus like the Parthasarathy Rocks.

"The decision of the administration to allow shooting of commercial films in the area would destroy the natural vegetation in the area," it said.

The administration also planned to take "user charges" by installing electricity meters in individual hostel rooms, it alleged.

The body also claimed that the university administration's decision to hike the price of the prospectus will make it difficult for students from deprived backgrounds to access education in the campus.
