The incident took place when nearly 100 Shia Muslim devotees allegedly attempted to barge into the grounds from a rear gate of the Karbala shrine on Sunday evening. Fourteen officers from two different law enforcement agencies were injured, half-a-dozen vehicles were damaged and the police had use tear gas shells to control an allegedly riotous group of people.

Dikshit and Delhi chief secretary PK Tripathi met Gupta who apprised them of the situation at Karbala and circumstances leading to the disturbances.

The chief minister urged Gupta to take all possible measures to maintain law and order in the Capital and ensure that no untoward incident happened that could threaten peace and harmony.
