“The victim has been identified as Gagandeep Singh, a class VI student of Gyan Bharti Public School in Naraina and his younger brother, Ankit,” said a senior police officer. Police said the incident was reported from the Burari bypass at 2.30 pm.

“Gagandeep and Ankit, a class V student at the same school, were being dropped to their Baba Colony residence by a school staff, Sumit, when the incident took place,” the officer said.

Sumit was driving the motorbike while the two children were riding pillion. The police said the mini truck hit the motorbike from behind.

The impact of the hit was such that the trio fell off the motorbike and suffered severe injuries.

“Since the boys were not wearing helmets, Gagandeep's head got crushed beneath the vehicle's front right wheel. All three were rushed to the Babu Jag Jivan Ram hospital where Gagan was pronounced dead,” said the officer.

The police said Ankit and Sumit had been discharged with minor first aid. “The driver of the errant vehicle has been arrested,” the officer added.
