The situation is not good and Tata's withdrawal would be a big setback to the industrialisation of the state, he said in New Delhi.
Industrialisation is important to remove hunger and poverty and there should be no opposition to it, he said. If the project is withdrawn it would have a very bad effect and the Opposition would have to face the consequences, he added.
Ruling out the Centre's intervention in the issue, he said, "What can the Centre do? Centre cannot do much in a federal system."
About land acquisition for setting up industry, he said that companies should talk to the farmers directly and their consent should be taken before acquiring land.
