Former Law Minister Shanti Bhushan, senior advocates K K Venugopal and K T S Tulsi termed its as a "landmark judgement" which will have a bearing across the country.

"It is an absolutely correct judgement and I welcome it whole heartedly. It is a much-delayed judgement and it should have come much earlier," Bhushan said.

Venugopal said "it is a very progressive judgement in keeping with the time".

His views were shared by Tulsi who said "it is a historic judgement that ended centuries of injustice against people who have caused no harm to society".

Advocate Kamini Jaiswal "the court accepted the hard reality of society and with the changing trend of the society, the law needs to be changed".

Other lawyers also echoed the same view with Diljeet Titus saying "India is now one of the countries which protect homosexuals".
