Lawyers on day-long strike to protest CBI high-handedness

The advocates are protesting against the ill treatment of lawyers by CBI officials during an investigation into a bribe case.

Rajiv Khosla, chairman, New Delhi Bar council said, "The CBI officials abused us and the female family members of Rajinder Singh Rana, who was arrested for seeking a bribe R1 lakh to grant affiliation to a private law college in Ghaziabad".

During the a day-long strike, the advocates will refrain from attending any court hearing; but will appear for regular bail matters.

The bar associations of all the six districts courts have given their consent to participate in the strike.

"We never obstructed any CBI officer from conducting their search operations, but still they have registered a case against me and IS Saroah, chairman, Rohini Bar Association," said Khosla.

On a stand against the strike, Ved Prakash Sharma, former chairman, Delhi Bar Council said, "Some advocates resort to meaningless strikes, just to settle personal scores. I am totally against any strike on this matter as the litigants are the one’s, who suffer".
