Ghaziabad district Judge V.C. Gupta told HT that several inmates had written to the chief justice. “We have received a copy of the representation and have also forwarded it to the Ghaziabad Bar Association (GBA) office bearers. The strikes definitely hamper the daily proceedings and we have held discussions with the association members to stop unnecessary strikes,” Gupta said.

Ghaziabad court lawyers are currently on a strike against reduction of summer vacations from 30 to 15 days for civil courts by the Allahabad high Court.

“We are also against unnecessary strikes but lawyers’ interests also have to be protected,” said GBA president Vijay Pal Rathi.

Lawyers in Ghaziabad and other western Uttar Pradesh districts have been going on regular strikes on Saturdays, demanding a high court bench in the western UP.
