Life better without BRT, research body tells HC
The campaign to scrap the controversial 5.8-km BRT corridor between Ambedkar Nagar and Moolchand got a boost on Monday after a feasibility study found that traffic was much smoother when other vehicles were allowed to run on the corridor reserved for buses.
The campaign to scrap the controversial 5.8-km BRT corridor between Ambedkar Nagar and Moolchand got a boost on Monday after a feasibility study found that traffic was much smoother when other vehicles were allowed to run on the corridor reserved for buses.
The study was conducted by the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) on the orders of the Delhi high court. “The experimental run of allowing other vehicles to ply on the earmarked lane for buses yielded better benefits for all the road users… with much reduced traffic jams,” CRRI said in its report.
A bench of acting chief justice AK Sikri, which is hearing a PIL seeking scrapping of the project, will take a call on July 18. It will go by the CRRI’s final finding on the corridor.
The court had ordered a scientific study on March 7 following reports of accidents and traffic chaos on the stretch.
