Five colleges in Delhi University provide an undergraduate honours course in Geography. “The scope of geography is expanding everyday and students have ample opportunities, be it environmental planning, GIS and remote sensing or rehabilitation issues,” said Poonam Bihari, head of Geography Department at Miranda House.

The college received a little over a 1,000 applications last year for the 30 seats it offers for BA(H) Geography. “DU is the only university which has a compulsory paper on GIS and remote sensing at the undergraduate level, thus making our students much sought after by private and government companies,” said Bihari.

The job prospects are many, said Prof H. Ramachandra, head, Department of Geography, at DU. “I have never felt the need to put in place a placement cell for the postgraduate students because they get easily absorbed,” said Ramachandra.
