Parliamentary affairs minister Pawan Kumar Bansal accused Akali Dal of “baking political cake on funeral pyre” of the victims after Dal’s MP Harsimrat Kaur demanded that a delegation of MP led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should visit US and the government conduct a global campaign to create awareness that Sikhs are not terrorists.

The real showdown started Congress MP from Punjab Pratap Singh Bajwa started speaking on the issue and Akali Dal members stormed into the well of the house accusing the Central government of taking the issue lightly.
Like yesterday, Congress president Sonia Gandhi was again active when Kaur became highly critical of the Congress and accused the party of 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
“Whatever has happened is a tragedy for the whole nation and it is a matter of concern. .... We should not bake our political cake on the funeral pyre of the victims. It is not good,” Bansal said later, asking Akali Dal members to bring a call attention motion on the issue.
