LS nod to changes in anti-terror law

Home minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Friday promised Lok Sabha that the country’s anti-terror law would not be misused by the police; HT reports.

Home minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Friday promised Lok Sabha that the country’s anti-terror law would not be misused by the police.

Shinde’s assurance came ahead of the Lok Sabha approving changes in the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act that some members called even more “draconian” than Pota and Tada. The amendment extends the duration of a ban on terror groups from two years to five years and makes procurement of weapons, raising funds for terrorist activities and counterfeiting Indian currency a “terrorist act”.
