‘Make Gurgaon toll road safe, or else...’
The Gurgaon police commissioner asked officials of NHAI and the concessionaire firm DSCagencies to immediately put in place all safety measures for expressway users or face action, reports Sanjeev K Ahuja.
Holding the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the concessionaire firm DSC collectively responsible for over 90 accidental deaths on Gurgaon Expressway since January 2008, the Gurgaon police commissioner asked officials of both agencies to immediately put in place all safety measures for expressway users or face action. If both agencies failed to take up the safety measures in entirety in next few days, the officials of these agencies would face legal action and be charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for negligence, said police commissioner S.S. Deswal.

Expressing concern on the frequent deaths of pedestrians on the expressway, Deswal has asked the DSC to ply mini buses temporarily for ferrying pedestrians from one side of across the expressway to the other till foot over-bridges are constructed.
“These two agencies are under obligation to ensure proper surveillance and safety programme for the expressway. Accident victims and their relatives have reported delay in getting immediate first aid and timely medical help. Soon we would review the safety measures and initiate legal action and book the concerned officials of NHAI and DSC if we find them guilty,” Deswal said.
