In an unusual scene witnessed for the first time, railways minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday exchanged pleasantries and was seen chatting with veteran CPI MP Gurudas Dasgupta in Lok Sabha.

What took everyone by surprise was that Banerjee called out to Dasgupta when he passed by her — it’s unthinkable that the Trinamool Congress chief would like to be seen talking to any Left leader when the Bengal polls have been announced Dasgupta appeared surprise but responded to her warmly.
Though Banerjee has never hidden her spirited opposition to the Left, she chose to go down memory lane with Dasgupta, recalling her admiration for late CPI leader Geetha Mukherjee’s abilities as a parliamentarian, sources said.
The big question, however, how the CPI’s elder brother, the CPM, will react to the bonhomie on the floor.
