He got involved with a woman who was already in an illicit relationship with a 45-year-old man for the last 16 years and paid with his life.
Munna Kumar, 19, was strangled to death by the woman’s lover in north Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla. He stuffed the body in a jute sack and put it in a cardboard box to make it look like a parcel.
Police have arrested the woman’s paramour, Ram Niwas, who is a resident of Shastri Nagar. The murder, which took place on February 27, came to the police’s notice the next day.
“Ram Niwas,” a police officer said, “though that solving cases of bodies found in bags/parcels had never been an easy task for the police. This is why he decided to get rid of the body this way.
The accused first concealed the parcel in his own factory. The next day, Niwas hired a rickshaw and took the parcel containing the body to Kishanganj market. There he hired another rickshaw to take the body to Azad market. Once there, Niwas disappeared after leaving his parcel on the rickshaw, the officer said.
“The rickshaw puller waited for a few minutes, but when Niwas did not return, he brought the parcel to the Sarai Rohilla police station,” said a senior investigating officer.
“The officers at the police station suspected foul play and informed the crime investigation team. The team opened the parcel and found the victim’s body stuffed in a sack. The victim was easily identified, as his uncle had lodged a missing complaint on the same day,” the officer said, adding that a case of murder had been registered.
The officer added that during investigation the needle of suspicion pointed to Ram Niwas, who was brought in and interrogated at length.
He soon broke down and confessed to the crime.
“Niwas said that he killed Kumar as because of him his female friend was treating him with indifference. On the fateful day, he took Kumar to his factory on the pretext of getting the machines checked. He then strangled him to death with a plastic rope,” the senior officer added.
