Delhi cops find trail of man’s body parts spread across north Delhi for 30 km

Police say the body parts of the man were thrown at different places spanning across 30 kilometres in North Delhi from a moving car.

For nine hours, three police teams in north Delhi toiled to piece together a dead body — a puzzle that spread across 30 km.

It was around 6 am that palms and one foot, seemingly of a man, was found wrapped in black polythene. The body parts were spotted by a passerby, after a dog tore off the polythene bag, possibly after smelling meat. The man made a PCR call and then started the search for the rest of the body.

Three teams including SHOs from Civil Lines, Burari and Timarpur went across 20 km in three different directions looking for the missing pieces. They searched the garbage stations, drains, sewers, parking lots, bins across roadsides and finally found the two calves, the other foot and the head in separate bags in Majnu Ka Tila.

“The face was disfigured using a sharp object and the neck was slit. The blood was, however, wiped from his face as there were no blood spots on his body. It appears that the body was cleaned before it was sliced in so many parts,” an investigator said.

They found the remaining legs 500 m ahead, and the torso — chest and stomach sliced into two, bundled up in a sack — another half a kilometer away.

Police said it appears that someone kept throwing the bags from a moving vehicle. “Someone sliced the body brutally, made separate packets and kept throwing it one after the other from a moving vehicle, which is why they were spread across 30 kilometers,” a police officer said.

After assembling all pieces, the police then took the body to the mortuary where it has now been preserved for identification. “It appears that the man was killed a few days ago as the pieces had started to decompose. The body has been sewed together and preserved. There are no marks visible on his hands or feet that may help us identify him,” a senior police officer said.

The police have registered a case of murder and have begun the investigation. “We have contacted police stations across the district asking them to share details of people who went missing in the last two weeks. We have also put up the information on Zip net. Also, we are accessing footage from CCTV cameras installed in the area to see who disposed off the bags in different locations,” a police officer said.
